Crostini with Extra Old Cheddar Cheese and Cranberry Compote

This crostini recipe with Extra Old Cheddar Cheese and cranberry compote makes for small bites that go down easy! The tangy taste of cranberry is a nice contrast to the character of our Extra Old Cheddar Cheese, with the crunch of the crouton completing this easy-to-prepare canapé. A perfect recipe to serve to guests, or as a little snack you can whip up in a flash.

Ingredients

  • 250 mL (1 cup) sugar
  • 125 mL (½ cup) white wine 
  • 125 mL (½ cup) white wine vinegar 
  • 500 mL (2 cups) cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 30 mL (2 tbsp) mustard seeds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Zest of 1 orange

To serve

Directions

  1. Put all of the compote ingredients in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool.
  2. Place Armstrong Extra Old Cheddar Cheese and some compote on each crouton. Top with basil.
